NO Light Behind

To get the light shining when you go in reverse is really quite simple. First the bulbs must be in good shape and the wiring making good contact on all terminals. The wires from each bulb pigtail together into one wire and continue to the front of the transmission. There the wire connects to a switch that has two terminals on it. One terminal is for the reverse lights at the rear of the car and the other is for the wire that is connected to the positive side of the ignition coil. This wire that goes to the coil must have in line an 8 amp fuse to prevent shorting out your ignition system incase of a problem in the reverse lights. It does not matter what wire is connected to which terminal on the switch. If the wire to the coil gets connected to the wrong terminal then each time the car is put in reverse the engine will die.

To check the switch turn it counter clockwise out of the transmission. You will notice a rod on the end that moves into the switch and springs back out. This is what makes the connection between the terminals to send power to the lights. If you apply 12 volts to one terminal and a test light on the other. When you push in the rod it will turn on the test light proving the switch is good. These are very durable units and rarely fail even after years of service. They are available new.

Now you can drive with confidence knowing you can light up the back side when needed.
